Time is of the essence

Yay, its Easter weekend! I haven’t actually eaten as much chocolate this weekend as I have in previous years. I think it might be due to the fact that I ate about 3 easter eggs during the week and I’m all chocolated out. Oh and the fact that I made chocolate mousse last night for a dinner party, so eating easter eggs today is not high on the priority list…even though I am now craving for chocolate since thinking about it.

So the rest of the weekend is going to be spent in my studio getting LOTS of painting done. I need to finish the pieces going in to the Braveheart Youth Trust art exhibition as they need photos of my work for the catalogue. So I have decided to take Tuesday off work to make sure I have plenty of studio time. The pieces for my solo show in July are coming along nicely. I am finally getting some momentum and on track time wise – I think. A typical day for me is spent working on the computer in the morning, catching up with my social media friends, reading some stuff on-line. Answering emails, sending emails, doing expenses etc. Then I go to my studio and spend the rest of the day there making art.

I could always do with more time though. Working a full-time job as well as being an artist makes it hard to find enough time to get creative. But without that job I wouldn’t be able to afford to be an artist. So I have no social life at the moment – although I did have a dinner party last night with a couple of close friends. That’s about as far as I get to being social at the moment.

I guess a lot of artists are in the same boat though. In a perfect world we all would love to be full-time artists, finding the right balance between working a day job and being an artist can some times be hard. So I have started counting down the months until my show and trying to plan out what I need to do by when in able to get ahead.

At least I gained an extra hour today, that’s definitely a good thing.
