I have been having a little bit of a break for the past couple of weeks. I haven’t been painting or making anything, I thought it was a good time to recharge my batteries. Instead I have been tidying up the business side of being an artist, doing my tax return etc. I have decided that being an Artist is really 50% creative work and 50% at a desk, emailing, making resumes, price lists and the like kind of work…which for me isn’t such a big deal because I actually *like* doing that kind of stuff, however some people really don’t *like* it and will avoid it at all costs.
Anyway, I really think that the business part gives my brain a break from the creative part and vice versa…and sometimes for me one fuels the other. So I have been making a list, brainstorming and writing ideas for some future projects that I want to bring to life. I have even started collecting some supplies for the next installment of creatures I am creating. I’ll post photos about my thought process soon.
I’m also working on a proposal for another solo exhibition – in 2011. I have finally found a way to make my paintings and taxidermy sculpture work together. So I hope the idea in my head actually works how I want it to. Sometimes the ideas in my head never actually turn out as I planned, so we’ll see. Watch this space.
I wanted to share some great exhibitions that are coming up really soon.

WINE COUNTRY GALLERY
Jane Gray from Wine Country Gallery is working on a new group show in November, this will be held in Havelock North. It will run for the first 3 days of the Holly Hospice Trail, from November 11th, 12th and 13th at ‘Blue Moon’ in Havelock North. If you don’t know Blue Moon, it is just around the corner from where the gallery (Wine Country Gallery) was, and is a beautiful store full of beautiful imported homewares. The owners of Blue Moon saw a great opportunity for Wine Country Gallery to have its Hawke’s Bay shows in their warehouse.
I will be exhibiting in this show also, and really looking forward to being part of it.
