I have decided to do something new in my blog, and that is to post a picture of something I like each week. This could be a picture of someone else’s art, something in the media or just something that tickles my fancy…don’t you just love that saying! I do have to say it is going to be very hard to choose each week, so you never know I might post more than 1 picture a week.
So here is the first picture of the week. It is a site specific installation by Kate MccGwire called Sluice. I came across this image on the Booooooom website, and then decided to google Kate. An excerpt from Kate’s artist statement says “Kate MccGwire’s work asks questions about the very nature of beauty. She’s intrigued by the possibility of envisaging beauty as something more complex than merely what delights the senses: beauty can be about a problem; it can be something that repels you or makes you question the status quo.”
I was particularly drawn to this piece by its beauty, precision and organic yet surreal nature. The way the feathers flow in different directions to capture the movement of water is mesmerising. The execution of her pieces are immaculate and would have many hours invested in to each one. It is very inspiring. It makes me feel like diving right in to it – or even curling up and taking a nap on top of it.
